We Accept The Love We Think We Deserve

For most of my life, I believed I was unlovable.

Not just hard to love—unworthy of it.

I didn’t like myself, let alone love myself, so when someone claimed to love me, I didn’t trust it. If someone’s love felt genuine, it made me uncomfortable. I feared they’d eventually discover the “ugly truth,” so I kept one foot out the door—just in case. Even after I began to learn how to love myself, I still accepted love that was far below what I knew I deserved.

Because deep down, I didn’t believe I could ever have the kind of love I truly wanted.

That belief kept me stuck in relationships that weren’t healthy. They weren’t safe. And they weren’t loving. But it was only through experiencing pure loveone grounded in mutual respect, connection, and emotional honesty—that I finally learned what I truly deserved.

And more importantly, I believed I could have it.


Love Begins Within

It’s hard to receive real love when you don’t feel it for yourself.

Sure, there are times we begin to heal through the way someone else sees us. But more often than not, if we don’t believe we’re worthy, we’ll sabotage anything good that comes our way.

To let love in, love has to live inside us first.

If fear, shame, or self-hatred are taking up residence, there’s no room for love to grow. Love doesn’t thrive where it’s unwelcome. But when we begin to care for ourselves, nurture our hearts, and see our worth, love becomes a natural extension of that inner work.

It becomes the lens we filter everything through.

If what we say, do, or allow in our lives doesn’t align with love—it has to go.


What We Accept Reflects What We Believe

When we truly love ourselves, we become more compassionate toward others. Our energy shifts from scarcity to abundance. From needing love to sharing it.

And the more love we put out, the more love finds us.

That kind of love? It’s not desperate or dependent. It’s full. It’s expansive. It shows up with open hands, not clenched fists. And when it arrives, we can receive it—not because we’re perfect, but because we’ve finally stopped questioning whether we deserve it.

You Are Love

There are many paths to love.

Sometimes we have to hit rock bottom to find our way back to it. Other times, we’re inspired by love we witness in others. But the more we cultivate and share love, the more it grows—and the more it sustains us when life gets hard.

Because love is more powerful than fear, shame, or anything trying to hold us back.

You are love at your core. That has always been true—even if you forgot for a while.

Feed that love. Honor it. Share it with someone who needs it today.

When Your Past Comes Back

I recently got a phone call from someone in the same industry as me—a person I’ve known for years. They called to say some kind things that truly meant a lot. But what triggered this call was a conversation they’d had with someone I used to consider a close friend.

This former friend had abruptly ended our friendship years ago when I confronted them about behavior I found troubling—putting ambition and personal gain above authentic relationships. Fast forward to now, and they were using my name to connect with people in the industry, as if we were still close. This wasn’t the first time I’d learned they were leveraging my name, but hearing it again stirred something deep inside me.


The Stirring of Old Wounds

At first, I was stunned. Then, the anger bubbled up. How dare they use my name after cutting me off? They had no right. But as my hands trembled and my mind raced with all the things I could say, I stopped.

I took a deep breath.

Here’s the truth: calling them out, lashing back—it wouldn’t change the past or make me feel better. In fact, it would likely pull me into a spiral of frustration and negativity. Instead, I simply told the caller the truth—that this person was no longer a part of my life. I kept it factual, free of venom. I trusted the person on the other end to connect the dots.


Choosing Light Over Darkness

Not long after, I was on a video call where this same person, my former friend, appeared. They made a point to say they were there because of me. I smiled tightly and said nothing. I realized then: the truth would reveal itself in time. It always does.

What I’ve learned on this path is to stay true to myself. It’s not about winning an argument or proving someone wrong. It’s about preserving my peace, keeping my side of the street clean, and focusing on what brings me light and joy.


Letting Go of the Scorecard

Life isn’t about keeping score. People will hurt us, sometimes deeply. But carrying those grievances around only weighs us down. Every time we dwell on them, we feed the darkness instead of the light.

I’ve learned that when someone tries to pull me back into old wounds, I can choose to let go. I can choose to focus on what fills me with light. I can refuse to be dragged down a path that dims my soul.


Moving Forward with Strength

We all face moments when our past rears its head. The question is: how do we respond? Do we pick up the bitterness, or do we lay it down and walk away?

I choose to walk forward, with grace, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to my own well-being.

You Don’t Have To Meet Anyone Else’s Expectations

The holidays can bring so much joy—but they can also bring pressure, guilt, and emotional exhaustion. Too often, we show up out of obligation rather than desire. We put on a smile, check the box, and leave feeling drained. But here’s the truth: you don’t owe anyone your presence at the expense of your peace.

Early in my healing journey, I had to start asking myself a new question before saying yes to an invitation:

“Do I truly want to be there—or do I just think I should?”

I’m not talking about what society expects. I’m not talking about guilt. I’m talking about truth. Your obligation is to your well-being. Not someone’s idea of what the holidays should look like.


You Don’t Owe Anyone Your Peace

Let’s be real: taking care of yourself will make some people uncomfortable. They’ll say you’re selfish. They’ll say you’re being dramatic. And sometimes, the loudest pushback comes from the people who benefit most from your lack of boundaries.

But their comfort isn’t your job. Your mental, emotional, and spiritual health is.

How many times have we said yes when we meant no, only to spend the event feeling resentful, drained, or on the verge of a breakdown? How many times have we promised ourselves never again—only to do it again next year?

That cycle ends when you decide your peace is more important than someone else’s perception.


Boundaries Are a Form of Self-Respect

When I stay rooted in the moment and check in with myself—without spiraling into what-ifs or worrying about reactions—I stay honest. If I’m not in a good place to show up, I say so.

Sometimes I offer context. Sometimes I don’t. You’re allowed to protect your peace without explaining yourself to everyone.

Will people always understand? No. Will some talk behind your back? Maybe. But those reactions say more about them than they do about you. You’re not here to meet other people’s expectations—you’re here to protect your energy.


Your Well-Being Isn’t Up for Debate

Especially during the holidays, it’s easy to feel pulled in a dozen directions. But the best gift you can give yourself is permission—permission to check in, to say no, to leave early, to skip the party entirely if that’s what you need.

Maybe that means going for a walk instead of going to dinner. Maybe it’s choosing solitude over small talk. Or maybe it’s showing up—but doing so on your own terms.

Whatever honors your journey, your growth, your peace… do that. You deserve to move through this season in a way that aligns with your truth.

And if someone doesn’t understand? That’s okay. You’re not for everyone. But you are for you.

Do It For You

You have to get well, or improve your life or self, for yourself. Doing it for someone else usually doesn’t work, unless you believe you are worth it. Many times I have seen and heard people say that they’re making the effort for a spouse, boss, child, or family member, but without truly believing that you are worth the work you take the focus off of you and place it where it where doesn’t belong, on someone else. There are many of us too who believe that it’s not OK to be OK if others in our life are not. There’s a co-dependency in many of us who feel responsible to stay in a place that makes others comfortable and we don’t want to make waves by breaking from the pack and moving forward without them. Move forward. We are not here to please others, we are here to learn to be our best selves, to discover our purpose and calling and to share that with the world. We are not capable of any of doing any of  that when we hold ourselves back to someone else’s standard of living or effort. And, it has been my experience that when we do make the necessary changes for ourselves and others see that change, that many times they will ask about it and my be inspired to do it themselves, but that change has to come from a belief that it is our right, and is right, to do so.

When I made the decision to seek help I did it for me, because I believed I was worth fighting for, and I was and still am. I was fortunate that I had the support of friends and family, but there were those in my life that also weren’t well. I was concerned how my decision to get better was going to affect those relationships, but I had to do what was best for me and my life and let someone else follow their own path, or perhaps join me on mine. Some did. Others fell away as my new way of living didn’t fit in with theirs, and there were others who came to me, over time, to ask how I had changed things around. I’ve found that when we follow our true path and live our lives doing what’s best for our mental, spiritual and physical selves that miracles can happen, not only for ourselves, but possibly for those around us. Everything we do has a ripple effect, and when we make positive changes in our lives people take notice. I discovered the path I have been on for over 13 and a ½ years because someone had shared the change they made for them selves many years prior with me and his story inspired me to seek out a solution for myself. I could see that he had found something that worked for him and I took a chance that it might for me too, it did.

When we focus on what is best for us and not what everyone around us needs or worry about how they may react, we are on our true path, and as we grow on our journey we have the opportunity to show others how they may find theirs, or inspire them to seek that path out for themselves. We cannot control whether they do or not, but when our light shines bright it makes it easier for others to search for theirs. And, for those who are stuck in their ways, and may not like to see the change, yes, there are those people, we can set a boundary with them to respect our choices and way of life, they don’t have to like it, but they need to acknowledge that we do to stay as an active member of our lives.

We don’t owe our well-being to anyone but ourselves. We are the only ones who can hold ourselves back, no one else has the right to do so, and, we shouldn’t even be doing it ourselves, but who we are, how we live and what we want is up to us, the only person we should measure ourselves up against is our own self, from where we have come from and where we want to go.

Let go of the attachment of having to please others, or stay in a place that does not serve you. Let go of the fear of what others may think or do if you break free and find your freedom in ourselves. Let go of the idea that you are not allowed to succeed when others may not. Find your path, ask for the help you need to become your best self and make no apologies to those who may not be ready to join you. SLAY on!

The Person Who Doesn’t Value You Is Blocking You From The One Who Will

Why do we stay?
Why do we stay when we’re not appreciated, understood, supported, or loved?
Why do we hold on when someone doesn’t see our value—or worse, tries to diminish it?

There are reasons.
And then there are excuses.

But the truth is this: when we stay in places where we’re not seen, there’s no room for someone who will see us.


When You Don’t See Your Own Value

Before I stepped onto this path, I never considered whether someone valued me—or if I truly valued them. I brought people into my life based on what I needed in the moment. I thought I cared, and maybe I did. But I didn’t value them as whole, spiritual beings—because I didn’t value myself.

I didn’t think I was worthy.
Not of love.
Not of kindness.
Not of real connection.

So I stayed where I wasn’t valued because, deep down, I didn’t believe I deserved to be.


Healing Changes Everything

That changed when I made the decision to get well.
Through recovery, I worked on self-love, self-worth, and self-respect. And with every honest step I took, I began to see my own value—and I started seeking people who could see it, too.

It’s easy to find yourself in a relationship or friendship where your light slowly dims. Where you stop being seen. Where you’re asked to make yourself smaller to make someone else feel big.

But the real question is:
Have you stopped showing your true self? Have you dulled your light to fit in?


Letting Go to Let the Right Ones In

We don’t have to make ourselves smaller to be loved.

If something feels off… if your needs aren’t heard… if blame is being placed on you again and again—it’s time to pause and take a real, honest look.

When someone sees your worth, you’ll know.
There will be respect, support, and a genuine desire to help you grow.

You can’t be open to receive that love if you’re holding on to someone who doesn’t value you.
Let go. Create space. Open your heart.

You might just make room for the greatest love of your life.

Thank You For Being Exactly Who You Are

It might sound strange at first, but I genuinely mean it—thank you. Thank you for being exactly who you are. Whether you’re someone who supports me, challenges me, or doesn’t quite understand me at all, your presence has helped shape who I am today.

Yes, even the critics.
Maybe especially the critics.

Some of the biggest lessons in my life came from people who didn’t support me. They challenged my confidence, pushed my buttons, and forced me to look inward. They held up a mirror and asked me to examine who I was and how I wanted to respond.

Sometimes they revealed parts of myself I didn’t want to see.
Sometimes they uncovered strength I didn’t know I had.

Everyone we encounter—good, bad, or somewhere in between—is part of our journey. Each person teaches us something. Each interaction reveals a piece of the bigger picture. And when we choose to see those experiences as information instead of judgment, we gain wisdom. That’s when the real shift begins.


Let the Good In

Let’s talk about the people who do love us, support us, and root for us when we can’t even root for ourselves. Sometimes they see us more clearly than we see ourselves. Sometimes they love us before we’ve learned to love ourselves. And sometimes, that’s hard to accept.

We’re conditioned to doubt praise, to question compliments, to scan every kind word for hidden motives. We brush it off. We minimize it. We say, “Oh, that’s not really me.”
But what if it is?
What if the version of you they see is actually more accurate than the one you’ve been hiding behind?

What if it’s time to stop arguing with the good and start believing it?

One of the most powerful things I’ve learned on my journey is that receiving love and kindness is just as important as giving it. When someone offers a compliment or sees the best in you, you don’t need to overthink it. You don’t need to explain why they’re wrong. Just pause… and say thank you. Let it in. Even if it’s just a crack in the armor at first, it’s a start.


Discernment Over Defense

And then there’s the flip side—the criticism. The judgment. The negativity. That, too, is part of the process.

We get to decide how much power those moments hold. When someone comes at you sideways, you can pause and ask: Is there truth here? Is this about me… or about them?
Sometimes it’s a reflection of their pain, not yours.
Sometimes it’s a reminder to check your own side of the street.
And sometimes it’s just noise—and you’re allowed to walk away from it without taking it in.

You don’t need to accept every opinion that comes your way. You’re allowed to be discerning.
You’re allowed to say, “That’s not mine to carry.”


It’s All Information

Gratitude isn’t just for the easy moments—it’s for all of it.
The love.
The challenge.
The growth.
The reflection.

When we stop labeling interactions as good or bad and start seeing them as opportunities for understanding, we step into our power. We reclaim our perspective. We make peace with the truth that people are exactly who they are—and they’re helping us become who we’re meant to be.

So, thank you.
Whether you’ve cheered me on or doubted me, whether you’ve stood by my side or walked away, thank you.
You’ve helped me show up as my fullest, most honest self—and that’s a gift I don’t take lightly.

Keep showing up. Keep being you. Because who you are matters.
And the world is better for it.
