Hope

Hope is a powerful thing. It was hope that saved me from myself, from my bad decisions, from my depression, from my negative thinking. It was someone sharing their story with me that sparked the hope in me. It was dim, but enough for me to take action and chase after that hope that things could get better. And when my hope grew I knew how important it was to share that hope with others and pass it on as it had been passed on to me. That is one of the reasons I started this blog, to spread hope.

We, as human beings tend to want everything now, we have a hard time waiting or believing in things we can’t have on our own timeline. We want it and want it all now. But hope is not to demand, but except and trust that things will come, that we will be taken care of, one way or another, and that things will get better. Hope is to have patience. And maybe that’s the key to finding hope, to let things happen when they are meant to, on their own timeline, trusting and using hope as the light on a dark path even when we can’t see what’s ahead. Maybe when we don’t have that patience we also don’t have hope, the two seem to go hand in hand, because hope is believing that something good will happen, knowing that this too shall pass, and the place we find ourselves is not where we’ll be forever, it’s giving up control of things passing on our own timeline and realizing that we never really had control in the first place, not of the big picture, only what’s in front of our hands, within our ability, hope takes us the rest of the way to change, if we’re patient enough to let it. Hope is not only believing in ourselves but believing that there is a plan for us, that if we trust, do what we can each day, things will get better, if we are willing to change, and are open or allow them to. Trying to force things into being squashes hope, and dims it as we try to override the ebb and flow of life and make it look the way we want to. But the way we think life should be may not be what’s best for us, after all, we only know a little, there’s no way for us to know the bigger picture, but hope can take us to that next place, that place we are meant to be where we can take the necessary action to bring us home. Hope is putting our intention out there, but also being open to new things, to good things, to things that will let our light shine brighter, hope gets our heart beating faster and gives us purpose and it stops us from slipping in the dark.

If I didn’t have hope years ago, I wouldn’t have made it. Hope is a powerful thing, and one of the greatest gifts we can give someone. Instead of focusing on what you don’t have today, focus on hope, and how the hope you find today might light the flame of someone else during a difficult time. We are all in this together, and we are all connected by our hope of what may come after all of this is done. SLAY on!

SLAY OF THE DAY: Do you feel you have hope? If not, why not? Did you have hope in the past? What happened? Have others shared their hope with you? How did they do that? How did that feel? Have you shared hope with others in your life? How have you seen that work in their life for the better? What do you struggle with the most in finding hope you may have lost? What can you do today to work to get it back? Do you have hope right now? How does that make you feel? If you don’t, why do you think that is? Find the hope within, even if it’s small to start, and share what you have, our hope can grow when we share it with others, and stick with those who share their hope with you. It only needs to be a spark to start, and from there your hope can grow to a flame.
